Absolute Residential Tower Competition

Absolute Residential Tower Competition

Honorable Mention Award
Overview: This design proposal provides for a new signature tower along with an articulated 5 story townhouse complex. The townhouse forms are designed to establish an exterior focal point for the entire Absolute complex which was viewed as an important element missing from the project’s overall urban design. The articulated corner at Hurontario and Burnhamthorpe Road (the 100% corner) establishes a visual connection on the bias with the long axis of the signature highrise tower. A glass enclosed connection unites the two townhouse elements and provides controlled access from the street level to the entire complex.
The tower design begins with a skylobby at the terrace level. A 10m interior height provides a lobby that is spatially scaled to compliment the tower’s dominant scale within the overall complex. A small amount of amenity space is provided with direct connections to the landscaped terrace. The overall tower form is such that the residential floors are each distinctly different from one to another. The form of the tower was derived from iterative plan rotations that create small transformations from floor to floor in a manner that establishes a smooth transition from the first level to the 57th level. Materials are envisioned as a custom glass curtainwall tower and architectural precast concrete for the townhouses.
