New England Aquarium Ticket Pavillion

New England Aquarium Ticket Pavillion

|   Central Wharf – Boston MA
Overview: The new ticket pavilion is comprised of a tensile fabric structure covering a stainless steel clad ticketing building. The new pavilion is positioned along the northern edge of Central Wharf, utilizing a system of 7 steel masts and booms positioned along the sea wall. Tension cables anchor the steel structure to the sea wall, which serves as counter weight supporting the tensile structure’s dramatic cantilever. The location of the new pavilion is at the Aquarium’s “front door,” providing an enhanced level of orientation and service for visitors. The architecture extends the materiality of the existing stainless steel clad volumes of the west wing, while introducing white Teflon coated fabric as a light and strong material to provide a visual contrast to the metal volumes.
Program : This project will increase the capacity and enhance comfort of the Aquarium’s ticketing operations, currently housed in an undersized facility. An assessment of existing and future conditions determined the need for a new 12-ticket window facility with a weather protected waiting area for 300 people in queue.
