New England Aquarium Old Town Trolley Ticket Pavillions

Old Town Trolley Ticket Pavillions

|   New England Aquarium, Central Wharf – Boston MA
Overview: These modest 10 ft x 10 ft pavilions rise with sloped walls to over 20 feet in the air, creating iconic pieces of sculpture in a new park setting facing the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The architecture of the structures relates to the metal-clad volumes of the Aquarium’s new IMAX Theater and West Wing expansion. The pavilions are wood frame structures clad in stainless steel shingles. Each side of the pavilion has a solid hinged panel that folds up to become a sun shaded ticket window. The truncated volumes are capped with operable skylights to provide natural light and ventilation.
This project is part of a larger civic effort to organize and minimize vehicular access at the Central Wharf waterfront and to create a unified image of smaller buildings that occupy the Aquarium campus.
