Rochester Central Station

Rochester Central Station

|   Rochester NY
Overview: Rochester Central Station is a project that breaks new ground in the application of FTA’s Livable Communities initiative for federally assisted joint development. As in Bridgeport, CT, Rochester’s Transit Authority, RGTA is seeking to leverage new transportation facilities to reinvigorate a downtown that is financially stagnant. In cooperation with both the City and Monroe County, RGTA is seeking federal joint development participation for the construction of the exterior skin of a new Performing Arts Center and the exterior skin of a new downtown campus for Monroe Community College. RGTA has identified a 6 acre site on East Main Street that will accommodate 36 berths for inter and intracity buses below grade. Atop the berths will be a new passenger ticketing and waiting concourse flanked by the proposed Community College to the West and the proposed Performing Arts Center to the East.
Additional potential air-rights development for market based housing is provided on the northern edge of the site. The new at-grade concourse will facilitate an important connection from downtown to the newly emerging residential initiatives north of the site.
